The delegation composed by Hon. Minister of State in
charge of Energy and Water, DG EWSA, Deputy DG-WS and technicians of
both
institutions visited on the 06th May 2013 Kimisagara and
Nzove WTPs to see for themselves challenges faced in treatment process
resulting
from high turbidity of raw water caused by heavy rains in the North and
Western
Parts of the country, which are the sources of water at EWSA raw water
intake
installations.
Turbid Raw Water
at Kimisagara Water Treatment Plant
causing frequent stopping of the plant.
The rains pouring currently in
the above mentioned
areas have brought muddy waters from Yanze catchment to Kimisagara WTP,
that
the treatment plant can no longer easily treat, while at Nzove and
Karenge,
intake installations have been flooded causing high turbidity in the
underground
abstraction wells constructed along Nyabarongo river, since flooded
