EWSA(ex.RECO) is installing an optical fibre
cable connecting the national control centre to all power plants, HV/MV
substations, EWSA offices, some of MV/LV substations and water
treatment plants.

The fibre optic infrastructure
providing both a broadband communication system and an energy management system
is compiling a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), Internet Protocol Branch
Exchange (IPBX) system and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition/Energy
Management (SCADA/EM) system software and hardware.
For the utility it will facilitate in
the immediate a better monitoring of the high and mid voltage grid and improve
measurement, analysis and quick interventions. In addition, all company
branches, power plants and stations will be interconnected allowing high-paced
transmission of large amounts of data and phone calls on one same fibre cable.
With the optic fibre infrastructure the
utility will be able to improve the quality of its service and bring direct
benefits to the customers. Being part of the vision 2020 Socio-Economic Plan,
optic fibre is bringing socio economic development to the country.
The OFC Transmission and SCADA System
project worth Euro 24 million has been implemented through EWSA(ex.RECO) and funded
partly by the Netherlands, MININFRA and EWSA(ex.RECO), the constructor being DRAKA
Comptec cable solutions.
According to EWSA(ex.RECO) Management the
installation of fibre optic is supposed to be completed on September 2010.
