PARTNERSHIP EWSA- GDC "Geothermal Development Company Limited of Kenya" news and events at EWSA

On Wednesday, 18th July 2012 at EWSA Headquarter, the memorandum of agreement has been signed between EWSA and GDC.

The Geothermal Development Company Ltd (GDC) which is a 100% state-owned company, formed by the Government of Kenya as a Special Purpose Vehicle to fast track the development of geothermal resources with head office located at Taj Towers, Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya [hereafter referred to as “the Consultant”].


The Parties have formed this memorandum of understanding (MoA) on provision of technical services(TS) for geothermal exploration and development in Rwanda, the scope of the services which came out of the mission to Kenya in May 2011 to discuss drilling services and supplies, and the MOU signed between the Ministry of Infrastructure of Rwanda and GDC.

According to  Dr. Peter A. OMENDA the Managing Director of GDC, the GDC’s responsibilities will be scientific, well logging and testing, Drilling Program, Infrastructure Support, Implementation of the Emergency response plan and environmental issues, Supervision of Drilling Operations etc.

On his side, Yves Muyange the Director General of EWSA noted that the plan to accelerate geothermal development is based on previous studies which show evidence of a viable geothermal resource in the western part of Rwanda. The Goverment is committed to developing the geothermal resource and has instituted additional geoscientific studies to reduce the risk of drilling unproductive wells.
LOAN AGREEMENT FOR ELECTRICITY - ACCESS - ROLLOUT - PROGRAMME BECAME EFFECTIVE.

The loan Agreement between the Government of Rwanda and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank) became effective on June, 9, 2010 for the sustainable energy development project Electricity Access Scale-up Roll-out Program (EARP).
